Managed Linux Server Hosting

Buying a server takes an afternoon. Running one properly takes every afternoon after that. We patch it, back it up nightly, block the traffic trying to get in, and publish it safely to the internet, so the only thing left for you is the application you actually wanted. From $90 per server per month.

The Server Is the Easy Part

Standing up a Linux box is a solved problem. What follows is not. The work that keeps a server safe and available is unglamorous, never finished, and very easy to postpone until the week it matters. Most self-hosted servers are not badly run. They are run by somebody whose actual job is something else.

What We Take Off Your Plate

Four jobs that have to happen every week, whether or not anyone has time for them.

  • Patching that actually happens

Operating system updates are applied and verified on a schedule rather than whenever someone remembers. The vulnerability that gets exploited is almost never the new one. It is the one that was fixed months ago on a server nobody got around to.

  • Backups you can prove

Nightly backups to Proxmox Backup Server, kept as 4 daily, 2 weekly, 6 monthly, and 1 yearly restore point. A backup nobody has restored from is a hope rather than a plan, which is why we test instead of assuming.

  • Attacks stopped before they land

Intrusion prevention watches for the scanning, credential stuffing, and brute force traffic that every internet-facing server attracts within hours of going live, and blocks the sources behind it.

  • Published without being exposed

Your application reaches the internet through a managed firewall and reverse proxy, so the server itself is never sitting on a public address with its ports open to whoever looks.

Managed Linux Hosting, Priced Per Server Per Month

Two fixed shapes. Most applications that would otherwise live on a spare machine in a cupboard fit comfortably in the larger one.

Tier 1

$901per server per month

For a small, single-purpose application that does not need much room.

  • 2 vCPU
  • 4 GB memory
  • 25 GB storage
  • Ubuntu or Fedora
  • Priced per server per month. Both tiers are fixed shapes: additional storage is available, and anything needing more processor or memory than tier 2 is quoted rather than sold from a list.
  • Applications you install are yours to run, and we are glad to run them with you. See the questions below.

Why Managed, and Not Just a Server

Unmanaged hosting is cheaper than this and always will be. That is a real choice, and it is worth being clear about what the difference actually buys.

An unmanaged server hands you a password

Cheap hosting gives you root access and wishes you luck. Everything after that, the patching, the hardening, the backups, the certificate that expires on a Sunday, is yours. The bill is small because the work did not go anywhere. It moved to you.

Somebody is already watching

Your server is monitored as part of the same environment we run for every client, with the same intrusion prevention and the same alerting. You are not the first person to notice something is wrong.

Backups that have been restored, not just taken

Every backup product claims to work. The question is whether anyone has proven it on your data. Restore testing is part of running the platform rather than something to find out about during an incident.

One number, and a team behind it

When something breaks you are calling the people who built the environment, not a queue. Your application sits on infrastructure the whole Veldtech team already knows, which is the difference between a support ticket and a conversation.

Common Questions

What exactly do you manage, and what is mine?

We run everything underneath your application: the host and the virtual machine, the operating system and its patching, nightly backup and restore testing, intrusion prevention, and the firewall and reverse proxy that publish the server to the internet.

What runs on top is yours to choose and yours to control, which is rather the point of having a server instead of a fixed product. So the software you install, its configuration, and its own updates sit with you, unless you would like us to take them on.

Can you install and manage my application as well?

Yes, and most clients want at least some of it. Installation and setup are quoted as a one-time project once we know what the application is. Ongoing management is quoted separately, because the honest answer depends entirely on what it is: a small internal tool and a busy database with a compliance obligation are not the same commitment, and we would rather size it properly than publish a number that is wrong for one of you.

Ad-hoc work outside an agreed scope is billed at $150 per hour.

What happens if the server is compromised?

We isolate it, work out what happened, and restore from a backup taken before the compromise. Routine restores are included at no extra charge.

Recovery following a security incident is billed at the hourly rate, because it is incident response rather than backup support. Working out which restore point predates the compromise, confirming the environment is clean before restoring into it, and making sure nothing reinfects is investigative work, and it takes as long as it takes.

How far back do the backups go?

Backups run nightly and are kept as 4 daily, 2 weekly, 6 monthly, and 1 yearly restore point. That shape is deliberate. The daily copies cover the mistake you notice immediately, the monthly copies cover the corruption or deletion nobody spots for weeks, and the yearly copy covers the question you did not know you would be asked.

Can I add storage, or move up a tier later?

Storage can be added at any time. Processor and memory are fixed at each tier, so growing past tier 2 means a quote rather than a bigger line on the invoice. That is not an upsell mechanism: memory in particular has become expensive enough that a large increase is a genuine hardware decision on our side, and we would rather have that conversation than pretend it is a slider.

Do I have to be a Veldtech client already?

No. Hosting is sold on its own, and plenty of people come to us for exactly one server and nothing else. If you already work with us, the server simply joins the environment we are managing for you, and the support you have applies to it.

Where does the server actually run?

On Veldtech infrastructure in a Reno, Nevada datacenter, on the same virtualization platform we run our own systems on. Far enough from Sacramento to sit outside the same regional risk, and close enough that latency is not something you will notice.
