IRONSCALES Email Encryption: secure email that just works

IRONSCALES, the email security platform we already use to protect our clients from phishing and business email compromise, just released a new feature we have been hoping for: built-in email encryption for Microsoft 365. It lets you send sensitive information by email with confidence, and the best part is that your recipients do not have to install anything to read it. We are genuinely excited to bring this to Veldtech clients.

Why we are excited about this one

We do not get this enthusiastic about every product update. IRONSCALES has been one of our favorite vendors to work with for a simple reason: their features just work. They are thoughtfully built, easy to roll out, and they do not create a pile of new maintenance for us or headaches for the people using them. That track record is exactly why IRONSCALES anchors the email security layer of our cybersecurity stack.

Email encryption has historically been the opposite of easy. Older approaches asked your recipients to install software, manage certificates, or create accounts just to read a message, which meant most businesses never used encryption at all. IRONSCALES took that frustration off the table, and the result is encryption people will actually use.

What it means for your business

Plenty of everyday business email contains information that should not be sitting in plain text: client records, contracts, invoices, tax documents, health or financial details. Email encryption protects that content so that only the intended recipient can read it, even if a message is forwarded or a mailbox is later compromised.

For businesses in regulated fields such as healthcare, finance, and legal, that protection also supports compliance obligations and demonstrates real care for client confidentiality. And for everyone else, it is simply a credibility builder: sending a secure message tells your clients you take their information seriously.

The best part: nothing for your recipients to install

This is what sets the feature apart. When you send an encrypted message, your recipient gets a short notification email with a secure link. They click it, confirm their identity with a one-time passcode sent to their inbox, and read the message right in their browser. They can even reply securely from the same place.

  • No software, account, or certificate required on the recipient's side.
  • Works on any device: desktop, tablet, or phone.
  • Secure replies included, so the conversation stays protected both ways.

How you send a secure email

Sending securely is as easy as sending a normal email. There are a few ways to do it, and you can use whichever fits the moment:

  • Type a keyword. Add [secure] to the subject line and the message is encrypted on its way out.
  • Click a button. A "Send Securely" toggle in the Outlook add-in encrypts the message with one click.
  • Let it happen automatically. For businesses that need it, the system can recognize sensitive content and encrypt the message on its own, with no action from the sender.

Strong protection, simple to run

Behind that simple experience is serious security. Messages are protected with modern, industry-standard encryption, and IRONSCALES holds SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certifications, two of the most respected independent security and compliance standards. The encryption keys are managed so that not even IRONSCALES can read your message content at rest.

Just as important for us as your IT partner: it is easy to deploy and nearly invisible to maintain. There are no MX record changes, no certificates to juggle, and no ongoing key management. That is the IRONSCALES experience we have come to count on.

One note: this feature works with Microsoft 365 today. Google Workspace and Gmail are not currently supported.

Common questions

Do my recipients need to install anything to read an encrypted email?

No. That is the whole point of this approach. Recipients open the message in any web browser after confirming their identity with a one-time passcode. There is no software to install, no account to create, and no certificate to manage, and it works on desktop, tablet, and mobile.

Is it secure enough for sensitive or regulated information?

Yes. Messages are protected with modern industry-standard encryption, and IRONSCALES is independently certified to SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001. For regulated businesses, the feature can also automatically encrypt messages that contain sensitive data, which supports compliance frameworks such as HIPAA and PCI. We are happy to talk through your specific requirements.

Does it work with Gmail or Google Workspace?

Not at this time. The feature currently works with Microsoft 365 (Exchange Online). If you are on Google Workspace and need email encryption, get in touch and we will recommend an approach that fits.
